A new chapter for donkey care at the Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary

Our new Equine Treatment Centre

Exciting things are happening here at the Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary as we've raised the roof on our new Equine Treatment Centre!

Why this matters

Providing the very best care for our donkeys has always been our number one priority. For many years, we've needed a dedicated, private medical space for our animals to receive treatment. Thanks to the incredible support of you, our supporters, that vision is finally becoming a reality.

Set to open later this year, our new Equine Treatment Centre will represent a major step forward in the on-site care we can provide. Once completed, it will allow us to carry out a wider range of treatments and diagnostic testing right here at our sanctuary.

What the centre will do

While some procedures will still take place on the mainland, many donkeys will be able to receive more of the care they need in the comfort of their own home. This will reduce stress for our animals, giving them the security of being treated in their familiar environment.

For us as a sanctuary, the Equine Treatment Centre will enable us to save on costs and resources, allowing more money to go to other things our donkeys need.

Construction progress

Right now, in July 2026, the steel framework is up, the roof is on and the wooden cladding to the upper part of the walls has been completed. It's so exciting for our team to see it really start to take shape. Construction of the block work for the lower part of the walls has just started too.
