Sunny's 10th birthday
This July it 's 10 years since Sunny the donkey was born at the sanctuary.
Sunny’s story began when his family was rescued after being abandoned in a field in Norfolk. His mum Olive, was pregnant at the time. She gave birth to Sunny at the sanctuary on July 28 2015 – a beautiful sunny day that inspired his name.
It was a joy to welcome a foal and visitors fell in love with Sunny. On his first birthday, he received over 250 birthday cards from our wonderful supporters.
In 2025 Sunny turns 10 – a big milestone! We want to make his birthday extra special and we’d love your help.
Creating a special space for Sunny and his friends.
Like any great birthday, we want to make something extra special for Sunny and his friends – filled with enriching surprises they’ll love.
Here’s what we’d like to include:
- A VERY LARGE sandpit space that will run down the side of Bruno's Barn – with plenty of space, it will be perfect for rolling, playing and enjoying the donkey good life. We will need to do some work on the area to make the space suitable, before bringing in tonnes and tonnes of sand.
- Mirrors – donkeys love looking at themselves!
- Extra-large salt licks – to stimulate their senses and provide essential minerals.
- Fun treat balls – because who doesn’t enjoy a tasty birthday treat?!
- Jolly Balls – sturdy toys with handles that donkeys love to kick and carry.
Could you support Sunny's enrichment area?
We’re sure Sunny, his friends, and his family will love this special new space. While his mum Olive has sadly passed away, his dad Blakey and sister Barbara still live here at the sanctuary. The space will be for all our donkeys. We hope the new additions will bring joy and enrichment for years to come.
Please help make Sunny’s 10th birthday truly special.
